VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC LOOK TO FINISH THE SEASON STRONG

British Columbia’s premier professional soccer team, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, will head into the stretch run of their MLS season firmly in a playoff position with 10 more regular season games to go.

Here are some of the highlights from their season so far.

Ryan Gauld is an MLS All-Star

The star player for the Whitecaps continues to be Ryan Gauld, who already has 9 goals and 9 assists this season. The Scottish talent was rightly recognized by the league when he was named an MLS All-Star for the first time.

Unfortunately for Gauld, he sustained a knee injury in the last match before the MLS All-Star Game and was unable to attend, but the Whitecaps expect him back on the pitch soon.

Brian White sets scoring record

Brian White has also shined this season with 12 goals and 2 assists so far. Earlier this year, he set the club scoring record in MLS with his 42nd goal, accomplishing the feat in his home state of New Jersey.

He now has more than 50 goals for the Whitecaps in all competitions and will be keen to continue to add to his total this season.

Jeevan Badwal makes his debut

18-year-old Surrey resident has been a rising star in the Whitecaps system, after coming through their BMO Academy program.

On May 19, he scored his first professional goal for their second team, Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2).

Then on July 10, he made his debut with the first team, coming on as a second half substitute at Pacific FC.

Keep an out eye for the talented midfielder as he continues to shine.

Defending their Canadian Championship

The Whitecaps are two-time defending Canadian Champions, and they are looking to make it a three-peat. After dispatching Calgary side Cavalry FC of the CPL, they were paired against Vancouver Island team Pacific FC, also of the CPL.

The ‘Caps will look to advance past Pacific FC in the second leg of the semifinals at BC Place on Tuesday, August 27.

If they do, they will host the championship final at BC Place on Wednesday, September 25 against either Toronto FC or Forge FC of Hamilton, Ontario.
