A quiet yet powerful literary moment unfolded in Surrey as author, poet and filmmaker Harish Masand launched his second book, ‘The Rain I Claim (Apni Barish)’, a bilingual memoir reflecting on loss, migration and creative renewal. The book was unveiled on Friday, November 7, 2025, during British Columbia’s Hindu Heritage Month celebrations, bringing together voices from literature, public service and the arts.

The launch was officiated by India’s Consul General, Mr Rungsung Masakui, and drew strong civic recognition. Signed copies of the memoir were presented to British Columbia Premier David Eby, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, Councillor Linda Annis and MLA Bryan Tepper, highlighting the community’s support for Masand’s cultural contribution.

Following the formal unveiling, Creative Kalam Canada hosted an intimate review session attended by 60 guests, including Mr Ravinder K Mangla, Consul for Culture and Education at the Consulate General of India in Vancouver. The discussion featured insights from local writers and poets, alongside video reviews from university professors in India and Australia, underscoring the book’s global resonance. More recently, Shri Laxmi Narayan Temple president Satish Kumar felicitated Masand for promoting Hindi language and culture through his bilingual work.

At its core, ‘The Rain I Claim’ offers an unflinching look at grief and displacement, while celebrating creativity as a path to healing. Reviewers praised the memoir’s honesty, accessibility and its ability to mirror the immigrant experience with quiet dignity.
