His early career was marked by a profound commitment to labor rights, serving as the founding president of the Canadian Farmworkers' Union, where he championed the rights and working conditions of farmworkers.
\n\n\n\nChouhan's advocacy extended to the Hospital Employees' Union (HEU) where he worked tirelessly to improve conditions for healthcare and government workers.
\n\n\n\nIn 2005, Chouhan was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Burnaby-Edmonds, representing the New Democratic Party (NDP). His tenure has been marked by a focus on healthcare, education, and workers' rights, striving to improve the lives of his constituents. One of his key initiatives includes advocating for affordable housing, ensuring that families in his community have access to safe and affordable living conditions.
