Although debts took precedence, Britsusheela’s mother ensured she joined music classes, marking the beginning of a lifelong love for melody. Her younger brother took on the role of protector, walking her to lessons and glaring at distractions, ensuring her safety.

Diwali, however, brought an entirely different adventure. Initially terrified of sparklers, Britsusheela found solace when her father extended one with a longer stick, helping her overcome her fear. She eagerly joined in the festive preparations, scrubbing brass utensils to perfection and taste-testing sweets. Lantern-making was her Achilles' heel, often resulting in quirky creations resembling alien artifacts rather than traditional decorations.

On the day of Diwali, she would proudly wear her new dress, spinning around like a queen preparing for her royal celebration. Her rangoli designs, while intended to be intricate masterpieces, often turned into colorful blobs. Despite this, she walked with pride, convinced that her neighbors admired her artistic efforts.

A Life Filled with Music

Throughout her youth, music was Britsusheela's true calling. She participated in competitions, singing in multiple languages at events across Mumbai, Goa, and beyond. The trophies and certificates she collected symbolized the small victories of her growing talent and dedication.

As time passed, her passion for music remained steadfast. In middle age, her son, Dr. Vijay Naidu, encouraged her to continue her musical journey. With his unwavering support, she pursued her studies in Hindustani Music at Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai, refining her skills and reigniting her love for performing.

Decades later, Britsusheela still hums her favorite tunes, a testament to her enduring passion for music. While the vibrant chaos of Diwali recalls memories of cracked lanterns and dodged sparklers, it is music that remains the true soundtrack of her life—a melody that continues to resonate, untouched by time.
