Surrey Board of Trade honors leaders in environmental innovation
On September 24th, the Surrey Board of Trade celebrated the 2024 winners of the Surrey Environment and Business Awards during its 18th annual event. The evening not only recognized outstanding contributions to environmental stewardship but also featured an insightful panel discussion on renewable energy. Industry experts shared valuable perspectives on the current trends, challenges, and opportunities within the renewable energy sector, highlighting how businesses can adapt to a rapidly changing energy landscape. The awards were bestowed upon Surrey Board of Trade members and local businesses that exemplify a strong commitment to environmental leadership. This year’s winners include:
\n\n\n\nSmall Business Award – Greenwave Recycling Inc.
Greenwave Recycling Inc. is dedicated to transforming post-industrial waste into reusable resources, significantly reducing environmental impact across British Columbia. The company efficiently collects plastic and paper waste from various industries, successfully diverting over 3,000 tons of waste from landfills each year. Recent efforts have seen them collect more than 400 tons of materials, equivalent to removing 1,000 cars from the road annually in terms of greenhouse gas reductions.
Large Business Award– Wellons Canada
Wellons Canada is a frontrunner in designing sustainable energy systems and lumber drying solutions for the forestry sector. Their innovative on-site water treatment system for lumber kilns has drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions and operational costs by treating water-soluble contaminants and releasing clean water into local waterways. Committed to promoting renewable energy, Wellons also works with Indigenous communities to replace diesel power with biomass solutions, utilizing wood chips for sustainable energy production.
